Evaluating the environmental impact of building material recovery and reuse
Snapshot: Within the green building and sustainable construction fields, there is a growing movement to recover and reuse building materials in lieu of demolition and landfill disposal. Reuse has several benefits including reducing carbon footprint, conserving resources, extending landfill life, and minimizing pollution. Building professionals are interested in mitigating the environmental impact of the buildings they create. However, they lack data to quantify the environmental impacts of the building materials they specify and that project's contribution to global climate change.
