Abstract: Physical property characteristics of nonveneered structural panels (NVSPs), such as waferboard and oriented strandboard (OSB), can be controlled to a much greater extent than those of more traditional forest products, such as lumber and plywood. The NVSP boards can be made with a wide range of physical properties by manipulating process parameters such as wood species, particle size and orientations, mat moistures, board compaction, resin and wax content, press-closing rates, total press times, and press temperatures. As a result, boards can be tailor-made to fit particular needs or markets.
