Abstract: The interest of much of the forest products industry has focused on the growing nonveneered aspect of the structural panels industry, but improvements in processing are bringing renewed attention to plywood. The need to produce veneered panels at costs competitive with waferboard and oriented strandboard has created an economic opportunity for many plywood process enhancements and innovations that collectively have the potential to bring plywood manufacturing costs near or equal to the levels observed for nonveneered panels.
