Abstract: Forests in America cover about 850 million acres, including 100 million acres classified as urban forests. Major uses of these forests include timber production, recreation, watershed and fisheries protection, wildlife habitat and biodiversity enhancements, and gathering of non-timber products. The American Public relies on this vast renewable resource to enable production of a wide array of products that are indispensable to our modern society (over 225 million tons of products are consumed annually). In addition, products produced from America.s forests contribute over $240 billion to our Gross Domestic Product and employ more than 1.1 million people.
