Throwback Thursday: Whistle While You Work

During World War II, nearly 700 employees worked around the clock at the Forest Products Laboratory. This steam whistle alerted employees when it was time to stop or start work.whistle

The whistle was taken out of service in the 1950s, but it was briefly reconnected for commemorative use while celebrating FPL’s 75th anniversary in 1985. Below, incoming director John Erickson (left) and retiring director Robert Youngs pulled the cord together to sound the whistle one last time. directors
