Here at FPL we understand the important role forest products play in most everyone’s daily lives. Still, it’s easy to take for granted all the gifts we receive from trees, so we get excited when there’s an official reminder to celebrate, and President Barack Obama has proclaimed this week, October 20-26, as National Forest Products Week.
In addition to listing many of the benefits forests provide, including “clean air and water for our communities and abundant habitats for wildlife, as well as building materials for our homes, and jobs and recreation for workers and families across our country,” the proclamation makes a bold statement: “Our Nation’s forests are essential to our lasting prosperity and to who we are as a people.”
We couldn’t agree more.
National Forest Products Week was first designated as such 53 years ago by President Eisenhower. Learn more about its beginnings from the Forest History Society.
