Lumber Production Trends
|
Softwood and hardwood lumber production has shown a general increasing trend since 1932, when lumber production reached an all time low. However, lumber production has begun another downward trend since 2004 ( for hardwood lumber) and 2005 (for softwood lumber), where softwood lumber production and hardwood lumber production peaked, at 69,187 thousand cubic feet and 27,562 thousdand cubic feet, respectively. The most recent downward trend in lumber production is likely indicative of the recent economic downturn and an increasing trend is likely to be restored once economic conditions have improved.
The set of graphs below illustrate these findings in terms of quantity by year as well as comparing the amount of lumber harvested from our National Forests against the overall national harvest. | |
